The Hike started out with mist shrouding some of the peaks and falling
in suspended animation over the trail ahead of us. The recently rain-wetted ground
emitted the odor of a doused and extinguished campfire. The scenery was both solemn and weirdly
beautiful. The sight of burned trees with fallen bark revealing the skeleton structure
beneath clashed with the abundance of many wild flowers fighting for new found growth space.
Footing on the wet trail was less hazardous than expected. On the return trail, the mist
transformed from gentle wisps sliding past our faces to a more persistent pelting of rain
drops on our rapidly donned parkers. We arrived back at the cars physically dampened, but with spirits high.
